Mirzam Chocolate x Aziza Iqbal:

Meet Aziza Iqbal the talented artist behind the ‘Winter in Morocco’ Wrappers.

During the development of the ‘Winter in morocco’ collection Mirzam collaborated with Aziza Iqbal an Indian visual artist, surface design and pattern specialist. Aziza specialized in pattern design as she has always had predisposition math and a love for Islamic art which is based on math. She has taken many courses in sacred geometry with the Art of Islamic pattern tutors and the Prince’s School of traditional arts and has traveled through Andalucía, Turkey, Egypt and Morocco and this has greatly contributed to her work. Iqbal works with both traditional and digital media

she creates complex geometric designs and her work is influenced by Islamic art, crafts and architecture.

The geometric patterns developed by Aziza for the wrappers portray the core of Moroccan art. She selected mostly ‘Zellige’ colorful tile patterns that she could draft by hand, in the traditional way. Aziza wanted to ensure uniform scale and visual cohesiveness from a design perspective, so all the five patterns stem from the same base structure. Additionally, in the process Aziza explored the color and pattern with relation to the flavors and incorporated some of the ingredients used in the preparation of the Winter in Morocco such as Orange blossom water, saffron and mint.
