Emirati Cooking from 1971 - 2021

Collected recipes from our community of traditional home cooks alongside, reimagined versions of these treasured recipes; creatively envisioned by a new generation of Emirati Chefs.

In the early days of our coastal region, before electricity, roads and phones, most ingredients were hard to come by. Day to day cooking was quite basic; and only when a very special occasion rolled around, was the spice cupboard opened to prepare these significant recipes.

A lot has changed between the formation of the union in 1971; and the UAE we know today in 2021. The guarding of secret recipes held closely within a family, has not changed - and more than one chef told us that their grandmothers were very happy to cook them whatever dessert or dish they'd like - but they would not be allowing any recipe details outside of their own kitchens.

A very special thank you to all of those who have contributed the recipes (some rather secret!) of their families; and put together incredibly creative new versions of these treasured memories.

Huda Al Nuaimi is a local designer who uses her diverse upbringing to amalgamate the traditional and contemporary in perfect harmony. A London College of Fashion Alum, Al Nuaimi takes great pride in the merging of her Middle Eastern roots with her western mentality and education. Huda has over 15 years of experience in fashion, design, brand identity and production. In 2020, this knowledge culminated in the creation of NUAIMI, a home for powerful prints!

Print has the ability to transport and immerse you into a different world and this has become Huda’s greatest passion. An avid hiker, horse rider and animal lover, Huda is most inspired by nature and the world around her. Each unique aesthetic is inspired by the beauty and magical simplicity of the natural world and NUAIMI signature designs have become instantly recognizable.
